Answer the call mid-walk on the TG38's wrist speaker

The Jacoosa TG38 is a square calling watch built around a 1.83-inch IPS screen at 240 × 284 pixels. It answers and dials over Bluetooth, so a call during a brisk walk no longer means fishing the phone out of a pocket. Alerts from SMS, Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram land on the same screen.

The calling part is its headline, yet the training side carries real weight too. Here is what sets the TG38 apart from a plain step band:

  • 140 sports modes. Walking, running, cycling, swimming, basketball, climbing and football all get their own log, far more than the 7 to 25 modes of a slim tracker.
  • A big, sharp face. 1.83 inches is room enough for the time, steps and heart rate on one screen, and the watch faces swap freely between sporty and office looks.
  • IP68 sealing. Sweat, rain and a splash at the sink are covered, and short immersion too.
  • 350mAh of battery. That is 5 to 7 days of normal use and up to 30 days on standby.

Messages are read-only. You can see a WhatsApp text on the wrist, but a reply still happens on the phone. A camera remote and music buttons handle the phone chores, handy for a group photo after a hike.

Call-audio check: call audio needs the watch paired to the phone's Bluetooth as an audio device as well as in the app. If calls ring on the watch but you hear nothing, check that second pairing first. The connection guide walks through both links.

The TG38 does not name one companion app in its specs, so follow the QR code in the box to install the right one before first use.

Stack a daily step and sleep streak on the TG38

A watch earns its place when it nudges a habit every day. The TG38 counts steps, distance and calories from morning to night, keeps a 24-hour heart-rate log and scores your sleep when you wear it to bed. Morning and evening, the numbers land in the app so a week of effort shows as a trend.

One small detail keeps the step count honest: recording starts only after 20 continuous steps. Shuffling to the kettle or waving a hand at a meeting will not pad the total, so a 10,000-step goal means 10,000 purposeful steps.

A simple week with the TG38 could look like this:

  1. Aim a little higher than last week's daily average when you choose the step target.
  2. Turn on the sedentary reminder so a buzz gets you up after long spells at the desk.
  3. Pick a sports mode before each workout. Heart rate and time are logged against that activity, not lumped into the day.
  4. Wear it to bed three nights running and compare the sleep records before changing your bedtime.
  5. Charge on the same day each week, so a flat battery never breaks the streak.

The health set covers heart rate and sleep. Blood oxygen and blood pressure are not on the TG38's list, which keeps the menu short and the battery lasting. If an SpO2 reading matters to your routine, the FITVII HM57 adds it alongside calls.

Female cycle tracking, an alarm, a stopwatch, weather and do-not-disturb sit in the same menu, all reachable with two swipes.

Pair the TG38 on day one and charge it weekly

Setup needs a charged watch and the phone you train with. The TG38 works with iPhones on iOS 9.0 or later and Android phones on 5.0 or later. It skips tablets and computers, so pair it with the phone you carry on walks.

  1. Give the watch a full charge on its own cable before switching it on; a full charge takes about 2 hours.
  2. Switch the phone's Bluetooth on, then open the companion app.
  3. Bind the TG38 through the companion app; the phone's own Bluetooth menu comes second, for call audio only.
  4. Allow notification access, then accept the second pairing request for call audio.
  5. Set your height, weight and step goal so distance and calories come out right.

Once synced, the watch copies the phone's clock. The time-setting guide covers the 24-hour clock and fixes after a flat battery.

Look after the IP68 seal

IP68 means the TG38 handles sweat, rain and a short dip. The rating is not a licence for hot showers or saunas, where steam and heat wear seals faster than cold water. After a sweaty session, rinse the case in cool tap water and dry the charging contacts before charging.

  • Wipe the charging contacts weekly with a dry cloth.
  • Charge from a standard USB port or a 5V adapter.
  • A worn 22mm strap is a quick swap; see band sizes.

With calls and 24/7 heart rate running, expect the lower end of the 5-to-7-day range. Turning the screen brightness down a notch stretches the week.

If the watch ever freezes or drops the phone, a restart from the settings menu usually clears it. The troubleshooting guide lists the fixes in order, from cleaning the charging contacts to a full reset.

Choose the TG38 or a TG08, TK29 or Alexa watch

Several 1.83-inch calling watches look alike on the wrist, so the details decide. The TG38 stands out for its 140 sports modes and its IP68 case. Set it beside its closest neighbours.

Pick the TG38 if you want the widest spread of sports logs and the stronger water rating. Choose the TRAUSI TG08 if a spoken Alexa timer mid-set appeals more than extra modes; both share the 1.83-inch 240 × 284 screen and a 350mAh battery. The IDW26 adds Alexa, blood oxygen and stress tracking through the VeryFit app.

Before you buy, run through this short list:

  • Replies: the TG38 shows messages but cannot answer them.
  • Health set: heart rate and sleep only; no SpO2.
  • GPS: routes need the phone along for the run.
  • Band size: 22mm, so standard quick-release straps fit.

The TRAUSI and DIVOAZBVO watches also start counting only after 20 steps, so step totals compare fairly across all three. The real split is water and variety: the TG38's IP68 case and 140 modes suit someone who cycles, climbs and plays five-a-side in the same week. A walker who mostly wants calls and a timer loses little with an IP67 model.

Tick those and the TG38 is a strong everyday calling watch for steps, workouts and sleep. More background on what this class of watch does well sits in the FitPro smart watch review.

Warm-up questions

Before you strap it on

Can the Jacoosa TG38 make calls as well as answer them?

Yes. Once paired over Bluetooth it answers and dials calls from the wrist; messages can be read but not replied to.

Is the TG38 waterproof enough for the shower?

It is IP68 rated against sweat, splashes and brief immersion. Keep it out of hot showers and saunas, since steam and heat wear down the seals over time.

How long does the TG38 battery last?

Expect 5 to 7 days per charge from the 350mAh cell, or around a month if it just sits on standby; lots of calls pull it toward 5.

Does the TG38 measure blood oxygen?

No. It tracks heart rate and sleep; look at the FITVII HM57 or IDW26 if you want SpO2 as well.

What band size does the TG38 take?

A 22mm band, so standard 22mm quick-release silicone, nylon or steel straps fit.
